My Dining experience

April 30th, 2010

I like to dine at The Palm – West Hollywood. This is very famous restaurant in West Hollywood. This is one of the classic and elusive old world charm restaurant. Palm restaurant grown into a powerhouse among steakhouses, spanning the nation form NY to Chicago and Los Angeles. The main fact about this Palm, I love that we were greeted quite warmly by the Palm’s staff and led to a quaint table for two at the far end of the restaurant. You can get round tables there with musical support. I feel more comfortable in this restaurant and wish to dine there.

The Domestic Kitchen

April 28th, 2010

Many fires start in the average domestic kitchen. Yet it’s surprising how few people think to have the means to put out a fire at home. When you think of the cost of replacing items in your home (yes, it’s insured but you still have to pay the excess!), the cost of preventative measures is very small. A proper fire blanket is usually kept in a wall mounted container with tabs on so it can be pulled free quite easily and used to deprive the fire of oxygen. Large fire extinguishers to quell extensive flames where the blanket isn’t practical can be purchased for very little and if kept in a handy place can be a house saver, not to mention a life saver.

Scavenger Hunt

April 27th, 2010

Last weekend, we participated in a family scavenger hunt.  My husband and I thought it would be something cool to do, but we had no idea how many things there would be on the list!  We started at six in the morning and were scrambling to be at the finishing point at six at night in time for the deadline.  It is amazing what kind of stuff our friends had in their houses!  There was a five hundred dollar prize for first place, but we didn’t even come close.  It was definitely the craziest day my family has spent together in a very long time!

The Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency

What to Read on a Cold Winter Afternoon

The last book I read was The Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith.  It is the story of Precious Ramotswe, the first lady in all of Botswana to be a detective.  I fell in love with the regular characters and with Botswana, although I have never been to Africa.  Mma Ramotswe, as Precious is known, is a sassy woman with a very strong moral compass.  I would love to visit her agency and sit outside drinking a cup of bush tea with her.  The way the author describes Botswana just makes you want to go there at once.  I have never before read a book that made me feel so peaceful when I finished it.  This is the first book in the series and I can’t wait to read them all.

Fire Safety in Offices and Homes

April 22nd, 2010

Fire Safety is very important when it comes to any type of office building or housing complex. Not following fire safety norms can lead to loss of property as well as lives in case of a fire. So what really constitutes fire safety norms and what to do to prevent mishaps from taking place? Fire safety norms consist of instructions that are necessary for emergency evacuation, fire control and safety in case of fires. It contains directions regarding the presence of co2 fire extinguishers, fire hydrants and emergency exits. It also consists of emergency evacuation plans and fire exit locations. So it is necessary for a building to follow all necessary fire safety norms in order to prevent any major mishap from occurring.

Variety is the Spice of Life

April 21st, 2010

I love trying new foods.  One of my favorite things about traveling is getting to sample food I’ve never even heard of before.  I love going to a foreign country and just pointing at something on the menu, having absolutely no idea what I just ordered, and being surprised by what the waiter brings.  I have definitely had some food that I would never wish on my worst enemy, but I have also had some amazing meals that way.  The best meal I have ever had in my entire life was in a Basque restaurant and, to this day, I have no idea what it was.  I tend to get bored eating the same things over and over, so my favorite food is the one I’m having for the first time.

Controlled Chaos

April 17th, 2010

My daily routine consists of periods of consistency punctuated by controlled chaos.  I have two little boys, so my house is never a dull place to be.  The only definites in our day-to-day routine are mealtimes, nap-time, and bedtime.  I absolutely love nap-time and will never give it up voluntarily.  Now that my boys are getting a little older pre-school is starting to factor into the equation, so I am learning how to have everyone up, dressed, and out of the house at an early and regular time.  Everyone tells me the boys will be grown and out of the house before I know it.  I guess when that happens my daily routine will be a lot quieter and calmer.

Dean Koontz

April 13th, 2010

If I could meet anyone in the world, I would meet Dean Koontz.  I got hooked on his books when I was in high school and I eagerly anticipate every new book he releases.  I just love the way he uses words and the characters he creates.  I have to think that anyone who can imagine the people he brings to life must be a cool and decent person.  I also thoroughly enjoy his sense of humor.  Dean Koontz is one of those authors that makes you stop reading so you can share a line or two with anyone who is in the room with you.  I just think he would be a cool guy to have a drink and a conversation with.

Alarm Monitor

April 10th, 2010

When I was in college I worked for an alarm company as a monitor.  I ended up working there for my entire college career.  It was the perfect job for a student.  If there were alarms going off, you called to see if everything was okay and, if necessary, you called the police and fire dispatchers.  Otherwise, if there weren’t any issues that needed your attention, you could pretty much do whatever you wanted.  The people in school did all of their homework and studying while at work, while the people who didn’t go to school would read, talk on the phone, or play cards.  It was a great job because you had periods of excitement, but you could also do whatever you wanted until an alarm went off.  I would definitely be an alarm monitor again.

Touch-A-Truck

April 7th, 2010

I don’t know if it sounds cool to anyone without little kids, but the coolest event I’ve been to in recent memory is Touch-A-Truck.  Every year in Las Vegas they have this charity event and it is awesome.  They rope off the parking lot of one of the casinos and bring in every kind of truck imaginable.  Then, you get to climb inside the cab, honk the horn, and pretend that you’re driving.  There was a garbage truck, a city bus, ambulances, fire trucks, and police vehicles.  One of the fire trucks even had their roof-mounted hose on, so you could take turns spraying water everywhere.  My kids had the most amazing time!  We’ve already marked our calendars for next year.
